LAP OF LUXURY
George allows one splurge per room—here
the iconic Barcelona chair—then fills in with
less expensive pieces, like readymade silk

W INNING W ISDOM
from George Marrone
■ Go with your gut.
The fact that George has
no formal training doesn’t stop him from tackling a
decorating project with gusto. “I have always known
what I like, so I just go with my instincts. I figure if I buy
things I love, they will all work together, somehow.”
■ Start with a focal point.
A blank wall is always
a hard place to begin. “I find art or a piece of furniture,
often something vintage, that I love then I build around it,” he says. In the
bedroom, the green lamps were the inspiration.
■ Think in pairs.
“Adding symmetrical elements like mirrors, artwork,
and sconces in pairs gives structure to even the most eclectic mix.”
